Hey, one and all.

I recently joined and RP that is really fun. It is an awesome place to RP and it's got a interesting system. The people there are nice too. It is Original character centered, though the Canon Characters appear in a few RPs.

I am such a freaking moron that it isn't even funny.
First I spend several days preparing for a test I thought I had today only to find that the test I had today was actually the one I was going to spend all of tomorrow studying for. Fission Mailed kthx.

And when I get home from said test I decided to color a sketch I did recently only to realize that I haven't seen my tablet pen in a while. OOPS. Guess what, it's no where in my room, car, luggage, or at my mom's house. That's $64 bucks I'll have to spend on a replacement if I can't find it. $64 that I could be spending on gas and an uncut boxset of One Piece anime.

And before the day is done I'm sure I'll find something else that I have royally f-ed up.

Was just cleaning out my sketch book and decided to put these up.

Zurr, not feeling so hot these last two weeks. Sick and school do not mix well. Esp, when your science teacher decides to have a surprise!test and give you a heart attack because he's missed over half of the classes and you have no clue what you could possibly be tested on because you've only had that class twice in the last two months (seriously he's missed that much; we only meet once a week though).

I've cracked and decided to write an OC fic called Wayward which is an One Piece fic. Just because.

Stellar is not smooth sailing and I suddenly wished I had someone I could chat with about it. Name for f!Shin is decided. No more changing my mind. This one sticks no matter what.

Also, One Piece movie 6 is awesome. No matter how weird some of it looks or the ugly shirt Sanji wears.

I've been thinking about art style for a while now. And as I have shown (on dA and at manycases1truth), I have been trying for my own art style. It's not working out all that great but I'm getting there.

The big problem is anime/manga art and all of the BS about it not being real art. It is. It's not easy to draw, people. It may look simple, but it's not. At least for me it isn't. And those artistic know-it-all's (not you niisan, it's dA people) can kiss my ass.

I like anime and manga. There is no two ways about it. I like it a hell of a lot more than all the cartoon crap America has (though there are some exceptions) and reality TV shows ( Hell yeah shout out to Law & Order SV and CI and CSI: Miami and Vegas fans).

Now I like realistic art. It's nice to look at, but I don't want to draw it. I draw to get away from the mundane world. I like drawing pretty girls and, when I can manage it, pretty boys (also manly hunks, but I phail at those).

While I want to draw in the Manime-style (lol bad abbreviation XD) I also want to add a little American cartoon/comic style (Americarmic? lolol *is bricked*).

Pros of Manime-style (and Americarmic I'd suppose):
Can be Cute or Serious
Stylized males and females are just prettier even if fake
The ability to break physics and make it look awesome or funny (like chibis and wacky expressions)
You don't have to stick to the normal body, you can have long or too thin bodies if that's your style
Eyes and hair (etc) are up to you to decide how to draw. Even if you wanted a spiky haired, bug-eyed guy that would be fine.
Shiny
You can find plenty of tutorials for Manime stuff I don't quite have a handle on, on dA

Cons of Manime (and Americarmic):
Some people seem to like attacking Manime artists (I dunno about Americarmic)
Shiny. (yes this is both a pro and con)
It's often repetitive if you don't change up nose, eye, etc  styles
You have to make or copy a style or mix both


Like I said, nothing against Realistic/realism/whatever, but I just don't want to draw it. I have no interest in it at all. I'm just putting up why I like drawing manime and why it's sometimes a pain to be an manime artist to get it outta my head.

For those waiting for more Stellar, I'm working on the next chapter. I've just had a lot to do lately and some things have happened (study, write papers, more studying, more papers, errands, being sick, Shinichi was embarrassed by the flowered dress I drew him in,  Not being able to find a name and stick with it). No promises that it will be out soon as I have several tests next week and a paper due Monday. (one  test which I shall completely fail I know. Darn you, Dr. Simmons and your completely ineffectual teaching strategy and lame redneck jokes!)

SO Laurie may be out of the question as a name. ^^;;;; If anyone has ever read Skip Beat and seen Lori/Lory then you understand the picture that name causes. XD

I made a list of pros and cons for each name while waiting for my classes to start today.

ironic, sounds good, keeps with Conan Doyle theme

Sounds good, keeps Doyle theme in that King took up Doyle's mantle as the writer of Sherlock Holmes, punny in a round about way

Well the strike is over. I managed to make it a whole day without accessing LJ. Boy was it harder than I imagined. O_o I guess that's what I get for being fanfic obsessed. XD

Anyway I hope this shows LJ just how serious we are. After all there's always Insane Journal to turn to even if it has a few problems. We've always found ways to get our fics, journal entires, art, etc. out. We can survive with out a money-grubbing place like LJ has become.

I'm not too worried. If I get mad enough at LJ, I'll kill my brain discovering how to make my own website just to spite them. Or figure out how to make a mailing list.

Well onto the Stellar Ramble:

So I put the first chapter up on FFnet and got several lovely reviews. The most helpful being from RedHerring1412 on the subject of Shinichi's new name. Midori was suggested as a way to keep up with the MK theme of color names and referencing Anna Katherine Green, but it just didn't strike me as the name I was looking for. But I liked the idea so I began searching on a baby name site for color related names out of curiosity and I also looked at this list of female detective story writers.

Lo and behold I see the name Laurie R. King and have a duh moment. The one female author I never considered and I'm a fan of her Mary Russell series. So I thought "Wow Laurie (pronounced: Lor ee  Alt: LAW ree) is a nice name. Edogawa, Laurie. I like it." but I wasn't entirely convinced so I surfed through that name site and hit Rorie/Rory (a Gaelic name meaning 'Red King') and I get a little tickled because it looks like Laurie pronounced in Japanese (and because of all of the connotations held in it).

Red King: Red is Shinichi's favorite color. Also the color of blood which could be a poke at how dead bodies follow him. King describes how he is with the BO. If he dies it's likely that the investigations on the BO would die as well. Just like in a chess match.

So I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with Laurie instead of Irene like I was going to. Although Irene was pretty ironic. It means peace and is derived from the goddess of peace Eirene/Irene. Shinichi does not attract peace. XD More like chaos and death.

Anyways with the way things are going I could have the next chapter out next week, as I have the basic outline for the chapter in mind, now if only I can find a beta reader in that time.

So if you wanna volunteer I'll try to make it worth it. =)
I'll even return the favor if you so wish.

Well I think I need to go find an ice pack. I have a head cold, a headache, and too many ideas running around in my head right now. *flounces off for an ice bag and a cup of peppermint tea*

It will be yaoi for main pairing even though there may be het moments. I haven't decided the other pairings yet.

 

If you’re not fine with Japanese (or any other language not native to you) in fanfiction, it’s probably best if you didn’t read this. Japan has a lot of mannerisms and ways of addressing others that we just don’t have in English. We usually address someone with Ms., Mrs., Mr., Dr., etc.; or the person’s name; or a title (i.e. You Majesty, Princess, Duke, President, etc.). I decided to just use Japanese. I’ll try to always provide a translation of any Japanese. Also I’ll try to avoid adding in meaningless Japanese. No random lines of Japanese (because I only have a very tiny knowledge of Japanese that I’ve accumulated from fanfics, manga, a Japanese dictionary, and two Learn Japanese books and because it gets annoying when there is a lot of text that you have to find the foot notes or a translator to understand).
